We need to meet with neighboring cities and devise a well-thought-out plan to get to the root of the problem of homelessness and offer real long-term solutions. Instead, thus dense building is destroying the character of Ventura, under the guise of needing more housing. Our school system did not prepare many of our average students for being productive citizens they focused, until recently, on all students passing the A-G requirements so they could attend college not focusing on trades. What we are seeing is the result of lowered standards in our schools and in society. We are not addressing the underlying cause. What is proposed is like putting a Band-Aid on an infested sore. The city council and planning commission say they listen but proceed with their plans in spite of public pressure and concerns. The proposed building project will not come close to helping our homeless problem, but it will increase congestion, further damage our infrastructure, impact our grid, and water supply. We have expressed our concerns about how this dense housing/building is ruining the “vibe” of Ventura. Spencer Noren, who organized Noren was told by the mayor that he would listen to the people, but after polling the people of Ventura, the mayor clearly did not listen.
